Virgin testing fastest broadband in the world

If you are still struggling to get hold of faster speeds for your broadband then you may be pleased to hear that Virgin Media has just announced it will be testing broadband speeds up to 1.5Gbps.
If the tests are a success then this will be a truly phenomenal figure to reach, and Virgin has claimed that it will be the fastest cable broadband in the world. With all the reports coming out showing how the UK is lagging behind other countries when it comes to super-fast broadband, this could be a huge boon to the industry.
Virgin has claimed that it would not be too difficult to roll out the technology if the tests are successful because of its excellent fibre-optic network that it already has in place.
Virgin currently has a 50Mbps broadband service, and its decision to test ever-faster speeds comes as it has seen its top package become increasingly popular recently. The number of customers it now has on its top service has doubled in the past year to 150,000 customers out of a total 4.3 million broadband customers.
Indeed, in the first three months of the year, 39% of Virgin’s new broadband customers opted for a broadband package of 20Mbps or more, compared to just 15% during the same period last year.
If the tests are successful, it will see speeds over 240 times faster than the average broadband speed in the UK at the moment, and it could also see upload speeds of up to 150Mbps.
Of course, the true test will come when customers decide whether they are prepared to pay more for such speeds.
